United Nations Academic Impact is a programme of the Outreach Division of the Department of Public Information. It is open to all institutions of higher education granting degrees or their equivalent, as well as bodies whose substantive responsibilities relate to the conduct of research. It aligns institutions of higher education with the UN in furthering the realization of the purposes and mandate of the Organization through activities and research in a shared culture of intellectual social responsibility.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), is the only UN agency with a mandate in higher education. It fosters innovation to meet education and workforce needs. It examines ways of increasing higher education opportunities for young people from vulnerable and disadvantaged groups. UNESCO is the lead UN agency for the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014), which seeks to mobilize the educational resources of the world to help create a more sustainable future.
The United Nations University (UNU) is a global think tank and postgraduate teaching organization headquartered in Japan. The UN University works with leading universities and research institutes in UN Member States, functioning as a bridge between the international academic community and the United Nations system.
Collections at UNU is an open repository that gives open access to research and papers written by members of the UNU community.
Participation in the UN Global Compact is open to degree-granting academic institutions, such as universities, colleges, business schools, and other academic organizations, which are committed to implementing the ten principles of the Global Compact in their organization, and which are willing to collaborate as strategic partners in the progress of the initiative.
