Voice communication by way of telephones has been the major driving force in the development of communication networks for many decades. The times are changing. It is now universally acknowledged that networks designed specifically for data transport will soon displace the voice-oriented telephone networks. This doesn’t mean that telephones will go away but it does mean that voice will increasingly be carried over data networks.
