1998 Observance of the
International Day of Disabled Persons
Howard Silverman Award
for Excellence in Disability Computing.
The Disabilities Computing Group of Non Profit Computing, Inc, a New York State
Chartered Non profit organization, today presented the United Nations Department of
Economic and Social Affairs; Disability Program the Howard Silverman Award for excellence
in disability computing.
The United Nations has created a fully disability accessible web page so that disabled
persons internationally can learn the most current information online.
Non Profit Computing is a non-profit organization which assists other non-profits,
schools, governments and humanitarian organizations to use computers effectively.
The award was presented December 2, 1998 at the annual celebration of Disabled Persons
Day at Lincoln Center, New York.
The award is named in honor of the late Howard Silverman, founder of Non-Profit
Computing's Disabilities Computing Group. Despite his own disabilities, Mr Silverman was
an early leader in the use of computers by disabled persons.
