Article 1
Purpose
The purpose1 of this Convention shall
be to [seek the full and equal enjoyment India] ensure [promote and protect

all human rights and fundamental freedoms (and strive for elimination of discrimination

Some members of the Working Group suggested that international cooperation
should be included as one of the objectives of the Convention. Other members
suggested that international cooperation was a means to achieve the objectives
of the Convention, and not an objective itself. See also preambular paragraph
(i).
2. An alternative formulation that the
Ad Hoc Committee may wish to consider is: The purpose of this Convention
shall be to protect and promote the rights of persons with disabilities.
