Fourth Review and appraisal, para. 13 The report indicates that there has been major progress in the development of concepts and methods of statistics on disability and in the compilation of data on disability as defined by national statistical bodies or similar organizations. However, there is still much room for improvement in terms of incorporating national capacity-building to improve national census and household survey data from the disability perspective as a mainstream consideration in technical cooperation activities of the United Nations system. The “Washington Group on Disability Measurement of the Statistical Commission” is a noteworthy contribution which addresses the latter objective. Disability data and statistics The report dealt with the necessity to define and measure the population with disabilities in order to measure the progress in the equalization of opportunities.
