Andrej Logar of Slovenia Chair of Second Committee

Andrej Logar, Permanent Representative of Slovenia to the United Nations, was elected Chair of the Second Committee (Economic and Financial) on 15 June 2015.  (See Press Release GA/11654.)

Before his appointment as Permanent Representative in September 2013, Mr. Logar served as Head of the Division for International Organizations in his country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  From 2005 to 2010, he served as Permanent Representative to the United Nations at Geneva, the World Trade Organization and the Conference on Disarmament.

Prior to that, he was Director-General for European Union and Bilateral Relations at the Foreign Ministry, which followed a stint as State Secretary (Deputy Minister) in 2003.  Before that Mr. Logar served as Ambassador to several countries, including Lithuania and Iceland (2001), Norway (2000) and Denmark (1999).

Mr. Logar was Acting Secretary General and Chief of Cabinet in the Foreign Ministry in 1998, as well as State Under-Secretary and Chief of Cabinet in 1997, a year in which he also saw service as Head of the Department for Neighbouring Countries.

In 1993, he was Minister Plenipotentiary, and previously Counsellor, at the Permanent Mission in Geneva.

Mr. Logar is a graduate of the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana.

Born in Maribor, Slovenia, in 1951, he is married and has two children.
