New Permanent Representative of Viet Nam Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the United Nations, Dang Dinh Quy, presented his credentials to UN Secretary‑General António Guterres today.

Prior to his latest appointment, Mr. Dang served as Vice‑Minister for Foreign Affairs since 2016 in charge of strategic studies, review and reporting, as well as strategic policy planning advice and training.  In 2011, he was Acting Rector, and subsequently, Rector of the Diplomatic Academy of Viet Nam, concurrently serving with intervals as Director of the East Sea Studies Institute.

Between 2007 and 2011, he served as Deputy Director General, Deputy Rector of the Institute for International Relations in Viet Nam’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs, concurrently serving as the Director General of the Institute of Foreign Policy and Strategic Studies.

A career diplomat, Mr. Dang joined the Foreign Ministry in 1989, working in the West Asia‑Africa Department and the Department of Economic Affairs.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Diplomatic University of Viet Nam, a Master of Arts degree from Carleton University in Canada and a doctorate from the Viet Nam Academy of Social Sciences.

Born in 1961, he is married and has two children.
