Christian Frédéric Braun (Luxembourg) Chair of Third Committee

The Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural) elected Christian Frédéric Braun (Luxembourg) Chair on 4 June.  (See Press Release GA/12149.)

Mr. Braun has served as Luxembourg’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations since 2016.  Prior to that, he served as Luxembourg’s Permanent Representative to the European Union.  He also served, between 2007 and 2008, as Director for International Economic Relations in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Between 2005 and 2007, Mr. Braun served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Luxembourg to Slovenia and to Austria.  Also during that time, he was the Permanent Representative to the Vienna‑based international organizations of the United Nations Office at Vienna, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Comprehensive Nuclear‑Test‑Ban Treaty Organization.

Mr. Braun began his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1987, attached to the Political Affairs Directorate until 1990, and as a European Correspondent until 1993, with a posting between 1992 and 1992 as the Executive Secretary of the Peace Conference for Yugoslavia at The Hague.

Mr. Braun holds a law degree from the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium.  Born in 1958, he is married and has four children.
