Security Council Sanctions Committee concerning South Sudan Draws Attention to Expert Panel’s Recommendation on Effective Arms Embargo Implementation

On 9 April 2019, in accordance with paragraph 19(e) of resolution 2428 (2018), the Panel of Experts on South Sudan transmitted its final report to the President of the Security Council (document S/2019/301). In this connection, the Chair of the Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 2206 (2015) concerning South Sudan wishes to draw attention to the following recommendation cited in paragraph 215(e) of the above report:

That, to ensure the effective implementation of the arms embargo, the Committee encourage Member States to engage formally with air cargo companies and regional aviation authorities, informing them about the provisions of the arms embargo established by resolution 2428 (2018), and encouraging them to cooperate with the inspections mandated by paragraph 10 of that resolution.
