Radhika Chopra (India)
Ms. Chopra currently works at
the department of sociology at the University of Delhi where she
has introduced a new course entitled "Theorizing masculinities".
She has also been a consultant for a visual documentation on "Men
and masculinities: an exhibition" and participated in a traveling
seminar series organized by UNIFEM as well as coordinated a workshop
on "Male reproduction and sexuality in South Asia". Ms. Chopra has
published various articles on gender issues such as, "Supportive practices
of men: a critical perspective", "Encountering masculinity: a methodological
dilemma" and "From violence to supportive practice: family, gender
and masculinity".

Magda ElSanousi (Sudan/Yemen)
As programme coordinator at Oxfam,
Mrs. ElSanousi has developed programmes focusing on gender equality
and the right to be heard. She has also worked to implement a gender
equality programme that targets displaced women in Khartoum. In 2002,
Ms. ElSanousi participated in a five day training organized by Oxfam
that focused on integrating gender equality and she presented a
session titled "Men and gender equality: the experience of Oxfam
GB in Yemen".

Michael Flood (Australia)
Mr. Flood is a research fellow
at the Australia Institute. Specializing in women's and gender studies,
particularly in relation to men and masculinities, he focuses in
particular on boys and youth cultures, male sexuality, HIV/AIDS
as well as interpersonal violence, especially men's violence against
women. Mr. Flood was a lecturer at the Centre for Women's Studies
at the Australian National University where he taught "Sex, gender
and identity: an introduction to gender studies". He has published
over 60 articles in community journals and numerous papers in journals.

Alan Greig (UK)
A consultant for the International
HIV/AIDS Alliance, Mr. Greig focuses on addressing the link between
men, masculinity and sexual health. He is the co-author of Gender
in Development Program monograph on "Men, masculinities and development:
broadening our work towards gender equality". Mr. Greig also wrote
two articles for INSTRAW, "Political connections: men, gender and
violence" and "Partners in change: working with men to end gender-based
violence" that focus on the politics of men's roles and responsibilities
in efforts to end gender-based violence.

Lars Jalmert (Sweden)
Mr. Jalmert is currently a member
and expert at the National Council for the Protection of Women Against
Violence. In the past he has served as an expert and member of the
Committee on Equality between the Sexes, member of the Committee
on the Male Role as well as member of the Gender Committee of the
Swedish Council of Work Life Research. He is currently the International
Advisory Editor to the scientific journal "Men and masculinities".
Mr. Jalmert has given speeches and lectures that focus on families
and work balance including on the father's role in the child's development
and mobilisation of men for equal opportunities.

James Lang (USA)
Mr. Lang is a consultant for Family
Violence Prevention Fund that focuses on engaging more men in ending
men's violence through online discussions. He also created a tool
kit for working with men and boys to be used by policy makers and
local violence prevention agencies. James is a consultant for Oxfam
Great Britain and GTZ, where he works on projects related to men
and gender mainstreaming in particular men's roles in ending violence
against women. While working at INSTRAW, Mr. Lang managed research
programmes, including on men's roles and responsibilities in ending
gender based violence. He also published articles on "Partners in
change: working with men to end gender-based violence" at INSTRAW
and "Men masculinities and development: broadening our work towards
gender equality" at UNDP.

Linden Lewis (Barbados)
Mr. Lewis is an Associate Professor
at Bucknell University and his book, "The culture of gender and
sexuality in the Caribbean" will be published in fall 2003. He also
specializes in analyzing work relations in his article "The social
relations of gender and work" and in book reviews such as "Producing
power: ethnicity, gender, and class in a Caribbean workplace". Mr.
Lewis has written numerous articles that focus on masculine identities,
"Masculinity and the dance of the dragon", "Gender and performativity:
calypso and the culture of masculinity", "Are Caribbean men in crisis?"
and "Caribbean masculinity at the dawn of the millennium".

Jorge Lyra (Brazil)
Mr. Lyra holds a Master of Arts
degree in Social Psychology from the Catholic University of Sao
Paolo, Brazil. His main area of expertise is paternity adolescence
particularly gender violence and prevention of sexually transmitted
diseases. His work has mainly focused on social intervention targeting
men and masculinities, particularly health and reproductive rights.
In 1996, he designed a project "Creating a place for teenage paternity"
which, became the basis for developing a social concept of paternity
in adolescence, by supporting teenage mothers, fathers and health
professionals. In 1997, he co-founded Institute PAPAI, which initially
focused on the subject of paternity in adolescence and on implementation
of the Support Program for Young Fathers – the first in South America.

Jivka Marinova (Bulgaria)
A researcher at the Bulgarian
Gender Research Foundation, Ms. Marinova specializes in violence
against women, teaching non-violence and tolerance and working with
men and boys using Information and communication technologies (ICT's)
for campaigning against violence in Bulgaria. Ms. Marinova coordinated
the "Advanced strategy for combating violence against women"
through education and sensitization of teenage boys and through
a pilot program for consulting of violent men in Bulgaria. She also
coordinated a project on elimination of violence against women through
research and education at the Bulgarian Center for Human Rights
and organized workshops in four Bulgarian cities on women's human
rights and legal strategies to combat domestic violence in Bulgaria.

Emmanuel Ochora (Uganda)
Mr. Ochora is the youth representative
to the Expert Group Meeting and at only 20 years of age he works
at the Gulu Youth for Action in Uganda and assists in coordinating
the implementation of HIV/AIDS programs that seek gender equality
particularly for young people. He was a guest speaker at a conference
in Minnesota entitled "Reproductive health for refugee teenagers
whose concern".

Dean Peacock (South Africa)
Mr. Peacock is the technical advisor
for the Men as Partners (MAP) programme that aims to promote positive
male involvement in sexual and reproductive health as well as in
violence prevention initiatives. He is also the founder of Building
Partnerships to End Men's Violence, which is a new initiative that
aims to establish a US based network of organizations to end men's
violence. Mr. Peacock has convened panel meetings and workshops
on men against violence against women in the context of globalization,
men as partners in the promotion of gender equity in South Africa
and gender issues in HIV/AIDS prevention: strategies from the men
as partners program in South Africa.

Stephen Vete (Tonga/Fiji)
As the Executive Liaison Officer
at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, Mr. Vete has developed
and implemented a workplace policy on HIV/AIDS that sensitizes staff
on the linkages between HIV/AIDS and the four divisions of the secretariat.
He is experienced in developing and conducting training courses
on a variety of development issues including trade, media HIV/AIDS
and development. As a freelance consultant, Mr. Vete developed guidelines
for the media on covering adolescent health and development issues
(WHO). As a UNDP consultant, he assisted in conducting strategic
planning workshops to develop national STI/HIV/AIDS plans for Tonga.

Njoki Wainaina (Kenya)
Mrs. Wainaina is a gender trainer,
analyst and programme advisor and as such advocates, sensitizes
and advises on mainstreaming of gender in all sectors of development.
While working for FEMNET she was responsible for coordinating and
integrating gender concerns in ongoing programmes of development
agencies in Kenya. She campaigns for male support in eliminating
all forms of discrimination against women, particularly gender-based
violence. She published review reports on men's programmes in Ethiopia,
Malawi and South Africa as well as published a manual for training
men in gender-based violence.
