With funding provided by the Oil-for-Food Programme, UN agencies in
the three northern governorates provide housing, essential services and
infrastructure to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and other
vulnerable groups. Since the start of the Programme, 19,051 dwellings
have been built for IDPs and most vulnerable groups and some 114,300
people have benefitted. The housing programme makes effective use of
locally available materials to provide adequate shelter together with
facilities for heating and cooking.
