SMEFUNDS Green Energy & Biofuels
Summary
1.3 billion people — 20% of the world’s population — have no electricity, and 2.7 billion people do not have clean and safe access to energy for cooking, leading them to breathe in toxic smoke created when burning charcoal, wood, coal or animal waste to cook their food.
Kandeh K. Yumkella, the Special Representative of the Secretary General Banki Moon has said, it make no sense to wait for ‘Never –will –Happen Big Power Plant’ with inhibitive CAPEX and Investment trying to make financial case for ROI while thousands of small institutions are pushing successful small scale distributed electricity and mini grids across the world under the United Nations Sustainable Energy for All Initiative.
The Global Alliance for Clean CookStoves has been Supporting Effort and activities across the world. Green Energy & Biofuels have increased impacts reaching over 300,000 Women in Nigeria, Ghana, Benin and other African Countries with the benefits of Cleaner Energy.
This session will explore the journey so far and create a platform to share and learn from other actors from the private sector working in bringing Access, Finance and Education to ensure over 1-billion people have the opportunity to Clean, Affordable and Renewable Energy in Africa.
