Summary

Domestic revenue mobilization (DRM) is a priority in many developing countries. Appropriate policy strategies must naturally be country-specific, but for DRM to be sustainable and inclusive it should be guided by the core taxation principles of simplicity, neutrality, and fairness. In this side event, Ms. Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Mr. Donald Kaberuka, President of the African Development Bank, Mr. Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank, and Mr. Jack Lew, US Secretary of the Treasury discuss and answer questions about the roles of their respective institutions in supporting countries implement effective DRM policies. This is followed by a panel of experts from international organizations, who will discuss experiences, challenges, and opportunities for strengthening revenue mobilization.
