Financing for Gender Equality – Results and Good Practices
Organised by
UN Women and the World Bank Group
Summary
The Third International Conference on Financing for Development provides a critical opportunity to agree on a global financing framework for sustainable development that guarantees dedicated resources, both in scale, scope and quality, for the full achievement of gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Finance Ministers are central in the work to increase and improve the effectiveness of budget allocations, from the public sector but also from the business sector. The Community of Practice of Finance Ministers for Gender Equality is co-chaired by the World Bank Group and UN Women and since the group was formed in 2014, its members have been considering which economic policies, tools and reforms are most effective in reducing economic gaps between women and men. There are now some lessons to share.
The high level panel will address the central questions of how to reach adequate levels and more effective use of financing for gender equality and how public and private finance can improve and strengthen women’s and girls’ opportunities, empowerment and agency. The discussion will focus on innovative sources of financing, gender responsive planning and budgeting, and macroeconomic reforms that support the realization of women’s rights.
