Summary
The July 2015 Financing for Development Conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia offers an opportunity to highlight the potential impact of cross-sector global partnerships to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. In support of the new agenda for achieving inclusive growth and human dignity for billions, this multi-stakeholder panel co-convened by the Business Council for the UN (BCUN) and BNY Mellon, a global investments company that safeguards one-fifth of the world’s financial assets, will include perspectives from four leading private sector entities: BNY Mellon, MasterCard, the Abraaj Group, and Direct Investment Africa. The event will assess key investment barriers, public-private financing opportunities, and best practices for unlocking private investment flows to advance the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as the potentially transformative role of social finance in the post-2015 development agenda. Goals of the side event include exploring the role of social finance as a catalyst for inclusive growth; status of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investment volume and potential for growth; as well as linkages between effective regulatory environments, rule of law, access to justice, and international private capital flows.
