Leveraging Pension Funds for Financing Infrastructure Development in Africa

The Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), in partnership with the African Union Commission (AUC), the AU/NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).
Summary
In light of the huge financing needs for infrastructure development in Africa, the event will explore ways and strategies to leverage Africa’s growing pension funds for financing infrastructure development, and ways to improve investment climate in Africa. Continental regulatory reforms will be important for mobilising investment, both domestic and foreign. The meeting will highlight Africa’s development financing priorities; identify factors and policies that promote private sector’s participation in infrastructure development; and provide recommendations to leverage pension funds for financing infrastructure development.
The Event will be structured as a panel discussion, moderated by the Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser on Africa and co-hosted by the Secretary-General of the OECD. It will feature prominent speakers such as the AU Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy, the Chief Executive Officer of NEPAD Agency, the Chair of the OECD/DAC, the Executive Secretary of UNECA, OECD and African Ministers in charge of Finance and international cooperation, the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) of South Africa, the Managing Director of National Pension Commission (PenCom) in Nigeria, and high profile academics.
The Event will be open to all delegates and participants attending the Third International Conference on Financing for Development.
