Summary

Research is key to producing new technologies; similarly, an enabling environment is key to convert and use the latter to achieve sustainable development. The side event will give an opportunity to scientists, decision makers, private sector and civil society representatives to discuss the benefits of investing in research to produce components of sustainable development (including new technology production, sharing, transfer and adaptation, capacity and business development). Illustrative cases presented (list below) will include aspects of technology sharing and use for climate related risk and natural resources management, nutritional security, enterprise development and as well as intellectual property issues. The event will demonstrate the role of research as a driver for sustainable development.
