The United Nations MDG Gap Task Force is an initiative of the UN Secretary-General to leverage inter-agency coordination for the monitoring of Millennium Development Goal 8 (MDG 8). Since 2007, the Task Force has monitored the five core domains of the Global Partnership for Development, namely, official development assistance (ODA), market access (trade), debt sustainability, access to affordable essential medicines and access to new technologies. The Task Force comprises more than 30 organizations, including the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and the World Trade Organization; it is co-chaired by UN/DESA and UNDP.
At the side event, the key findings captured in the Executive Summary of the 2015 MDG Gap Task Force Report entitled Taking Stock of the Global Partnership for Development will be presented. The latest developments in the above five domains will be reviewed and progress and shortfalls during the entire MDG period (2000-2015) will be identified. The panel will include senior officials of UN/DESA and UNDP and other members of the Task Force. The Executive Summary of the 2015 Report will be available in the six UN languages.
