Achieving Zero Hunger: The Critical Role of Investments in Social Protection and Agriculture

  • Date: 15 July 2015, 1:15pm - 2:45pm
  • Location: Hilton Harrar Grill

Organised by

FAO, IFAD and WFP in collaboration with the UN Regional Economic Commissions and the Government of Guyana

Summary

Member States have consistently highlighted the importance of eliminating poverty, hunger and malnutrition for achieving the SDGs. SDG2 recognizes the comprehensive and complementary nature of the interventions required to eliminate hunger and malnutrition, eradicate rural poverty and foster the transition to sustainable agriculture and food production systems. The Rome-based agencies have prepared new estimates of the additional investments required to achieve a world without hunger by 2030. These estimates indicate that hunger and poverty can be eliminated, and that investments in agriculture and social protection are critical. The side event will enable discussion by a wide range of stakeholders.
