PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

5th meeting

General debate

The Committee continued its general debate and heard the statements made by the representatives of Dominican Republic, Japan, Jordan, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea and Sierra Leone.

The representatives of following non-governmental organizations also made statements: Support Coalition International and Madre Inc.

The representative of Mexico introduced document A/AC.265/ WP.1.

Organizational matters

The Ad Hoc Committee elected Ms. Jeanette Ndhlovu (South Africa) as the Vice-Chairperson of the Committee by acclamation.

The Committee also considered other organizational issues. The representatives of the following countries participated in the discussions on organizational matters: Australia, Canada, Chile, Cuba, Denmark (on behalf of the European Union and the countries of Central and Eastern European States, as well as associated States), Iran (Islamic Republic of), Mexico, Norway, the Russian Federation, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Suriname and the United States.

6th meeting

The Ad Hoc Committee continued its consideration of remaining organizational issues.

Débat général

Le Comité poursuit son débat général en entendant des déclarations des représentants de la République dominicaine, du Japon, de la Jordanie, de l'Inde, de l'Indonésie, des Philippines, de la République de Corée et de la Sierra Leone.

Les représentants des organisations non gouvernemen- tales suivantes font aussi des déclarations : Support Coalition International et Madre Inc.

Le représentant du Mexique présente le document A/AC.265/ WP.1.

Questions d'organisation

Par acclamation, le Comité spécial élit Mme Jeanette Ndhlovu (Afrique du Sud) Vice-Présidente du Comité.

Le Comité examine également d'autres questions d'organisation. Les représentants des pays suivants participent au débat sur les questions d'organisation : Australie, Canada, Chili, Cuba, Danemark (au nom de l'Union européenne et des pays de l'Europe centrale et orientale, ainsi que des États associés), États-Unis, Fédération de Russie, Iran (République islamique d'), Mexique, Norvège, Sierra Leone, Soudan et Suriname.

Le Comité spécial poursuit l'examen des questions d'organisation restantes.
