Ad Hoc Committee : Meeting 29 July - 9 August 2002 : Daily Summaries Daily Summary for 7 August 2002 From the UN Journal No. 2002/152 dated 8 August 2002 (English and French only) AD HOC COMMITTEE ON A COMPREHENSIVE AND INTEGRAL INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION ON PROTECTION AND PROMOTION OF THE RIGHTS AND DIGNITY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES 15th meeting The Committee began its consideration of the question of monitoring mechanisms and other topics and heard statements made by the representatives of Australia, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, the Republic Islamic of Iran, Mexico, Norway, Sierra Leone and South Africa, as well as by the representative of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Special Rapporteur, Mr. Bengt Lindqvist, and Dr. Jeanette Lord. The representatives of the following non-governmental organizations also made statements : Disabled Persons International, Madre Inc and World Blind Union. 16th meeting The meeting was adjourned immediately upon opening to allow open-ended informal consultations on the draft resolution and other recommendations to the General Assembly at its fifty-seventh session. COMITÉ SPÉCIAL CHARGÉ D'EXAMINER UNE CONVENTION INTERNATIONALE GLOBALE ET INTÉGRÉE SUR LA DÉFENSE ET LA PROMOTION DES DROITS ET DE LA DIGNITÉ DES HANDICAPÉS 15e séance Le Comité commence l’examen de la question des mécanismes de suivi et autres questions en entendant des déclarations des représentants de l’Australie, du Brésil, du Canada, du Danemark, de la République islamique d’Iran, du Mexique, de la Norvège, de la Sierra Leone et de l’Afrique du Sud, ainsi que du représentant du Bureau du Haut Commissariat aux droits de l’homme, le Rapporteur spécial, M. Bengt Lindqvist, et Mme Jeanette Lord. Les représentants des organisations non gouvernemen- tales suivantes font aussi des déclarations : Disabled Persons International, Madre Inc et l’Union mondiale des aveugles. 16e séance La séance est ajournée dès son ouverture pour permettre des consultations officieuses à participation non limitée sur le projet de résolution et les autres recommandations à l’Assemblée générale à sa cinquante-septième session.
