SECURITY COUNCIL EXTENDS LEBANON MANDATE UNTIL 31 JULY

The Security Council this afternoon extended the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) for a further six months, until 31 July.

SECURITY COUNCIL EXTENDS MANDATE OF UN OBSERVER MISSION IN GEORGIA TO 12 JULY

The Security Council this afternoon extended the mandate of the United Nations Observer Mission in Georgia (UNOMIG) for an additional six months, until 12 July. The extension is subject to a review by the Council if changes are made in the mandate of the peace-keeping force of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) currently deployed there.

19951229 In accordance with the principle of alphabetical rotation, the following new Chairmen of United Nations security bodies will take office on 1 January 1996:

Sir John Weston (United Kingdom) will succeed Sergey V. Lavrov (Russian Federation) as President of the Security Council.
