The Secretary General of the United Nations regularly reports to the General Assembly and the Commission on the Status of Women on the improvement of the status of women in the Secretariat and the UN System. This reporting is undertaken though the Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women to the General Assembly in during its annual regular session held between September and December, and then again, as an update, to the Commission on the Status of Women in March. In addition, the Secretary General has issued bulletins pertaining to the Status of Women in the Secretariat. In this section you will find the reports issued by the Secretary General to the General Assembly and CSW as well as the Secretary General's bulletins related to gender.
In addition, you will find in this section the resolutions of the General Assembly on the improvement of the status of women in the United Nations system. The General Assembly, which is composed of representatives of all Member States, is the main deliberative organ of the United Nations. The work of the United Nations derives largely from the decisions of the General Assembly - that is to say, the will of the majority of the Member States as expressed in resolutions adopted by the Assembly. Issues pertaining to the status of women in the United Nations system are considered by two of the Assembly's six Main Committees - the Third Committee which considers social, humanitarian and cultural questions and the Fifth Committee which considers administrative and budgetary questions.
