Partners
The United Nations invited Governments to set up a national committee, together with all relevant stakeholders, including cooperatives, UN agencies and civil society, to coordinate activities in the preparation and observance of the International Year of Cooperatives 2012 (IYC) at the national level.
Therefore, national committees are inclusive and should be made up of country-level actors including:
- local government representatives,
- cooperatives from different sectors and cooperative members,
- private sector,
- NGO community,
- Academia,
- Media.
UN Agencies
Many UN agencies work with various cooperative sectors and can contribute significantly in raising awareness, providing technical assistance and supporting national activities within the context of the IYC. List of Focal Points for UN Agencies.
Cooperative Movement
It is crucial to the success of the IYC that the cooperative movement all over the world will, among others, provide materials for posting on official IYC website, organize coordinated efforts to raise awareness about cooperatives, and promote the year through various publicity vehicles.
Other Major Players
Many major partners - be they academia, the private sector, civil society organizations, and the media – play a pivotal role in strengthening cooperatives through their engagement in communications and activities that link common goals together.
