The 61st ordinary session opened on 12 September 2006, at 3 p.m.
Her Excellency Sheikha Haya Rashed Al Khalifa of Bahrain was the President of the 61st session of the General Assembly.
The theme of the 61st session was "Implementing a global partnership for development".
