In a letter dated 21 September 2016 (A/71/141/Rev.1), the Permanent Representative of Honduras to the United Nations requested the inclusion of this item in the provisional agenda of the seventy-first session.
Consideration at the seventy-first session
The Sixth Committee considered the item at its 31st and 32nd meetings, on 4 and 7 November 2016 (see A/C.6/71/SR.31 and A/C.6/71/SR.32).
Action taken by the Sixth Committee
At the 31st meeting, on 4 November, the representative of Honduras, on behalf of Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Spain, introduced a draft resolution entitled “Observer status for the Central American Bank for Economic Integration in the General Assembly” (A/C.6/71/L.19).
At its 32nd meeting, on 7 November, the Committee adopted draft resolution A/C.6/71/L.19 without a vote.
Under this draft resolution, the General Assembly would decide to invite the Central American Bank for Economic Integration to participate in the sessions and the work of the General Assembly in the capacity of observer; and request the Secretary-General to take the necessary action to implement the resolution.
