Documentation

Summary of work

Background (source: A/79/150)

By the letter dated 28 June 2024 (A/79/141) addressed to the Secretary-General, the representatives of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Montenegro, the Republic of Moldova and Romania to the United Nations requested the inclusion of this item in the provisional agenda of the seventy-ninth session.

Consideration at the seventy-ninth session

The Sixth Committee considered the item at its 14th and 39th meetings, on 15 October and 22 November 2025 (see A/C.6/79/SR.14 and 39).

Statements were made by the representatives of Romania, the Russian Federation, Bulgaria, Montenegro and Türkiye.

Support was expressed for granting observer status to the Regional Anti-Corruption Initiative, in view of its activities in support of anti-corruption efforts in the region of Southeast Europe, as well as in connection with the United Nations Convention against Corruption and the Conference of the States Parties to that convention.

Some delegations considered that the Initiative met the criteria established in General assembly decision 49/426 of 9 December 1994. However, other delegations considered that the legal character of the Initiative required further study.
