About the event
(Hybrid format)
Strengthening forest financing capacities in the region
The United Nations Forum on Forests Secretariat (UNFFS) will convene a Regional Capacity-Building Workshop on Forest Financing from 20 to 23 January 2026 at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand. The workshop will be held in a hybrid format to facilitate broad participation across the Asia–Pacific region.
Enhancing knowledge of forest financing mechanisms
The workshop aims to strengthen the knowledge and capacity of countries and stakeholders in the Asia–Pacific region on the global forest financing landscape, including access to existing funding opportunities. Participants will learn about diverse financing instruments, strategic planning, project design, and innovative mechanisms to mobilise and leverage resources for advancing the Global Forest Goals of the United Nations Strategic Plan for Forests 2017-2030 and other global forest-related goals and targets.
Building on previous regional initiatives
Following the successful experience of a similar workshop for the Latin America and Caribbean region in 2023, this is the second in a series of regional capacity-building workshops organised under the Global Forest Financing Facilitation Network (GFFFN). The initiative seeks to enhance the ability of Forum members in different regions to access and effectively use global resources for forests, in line with the Network’s mandate and functions.
Call for nominations
Relevant UNFF member countries in the Asia and the Pacific region, members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF), and regional and subregional partners are invited to nominate their representatives for participation by 21 November 2025. Limited financial support will be available for eligible countries on a first-come, first-served basis.
