CPF input to UNFF12 discussions on contributions of forests to 2017 HLPF theme and achievement of SDGs 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, 14 and 17

The twelfth session of UN Forum on Forests (UNFF12) will be held from 1-5 May 2017. One of the issues that the Forum will deliberate on, is its contribution to the 2017 meeting of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), as mandated by the ECOSOC resolution 2015/33, the UN Strategic Plan for Forests 2017-2030 and the Quadrennial Programme of Work of the Forum for the period 2017-2020.

The 2017 meeting of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Developmentwill be held from 10-19 July 2017 under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council. The theme of the 2017 meeting will be “Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world” and will also include an in-depth review of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) goal 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, 14 and 17.

As an input to the UNFF12 discussions on the contributions of forests to the 2017 HLPF, the UNFF Secretariat surveyed CPF member organizations, seeking views on three following areas:

  • Views on the key contributions of forests to “eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world”.
  • Views on key contributions of forests to the achievement of SDGs 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, 14 and 17.
  • Priorities and challenges to enhance the contributions of forests to the achievement of SDGs 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, 14 and 17.
