Qunli New Town, Haerbin, used to flood every year during Monsoon season. Turenscape created an urban wetland free of pipes which was managed with indigenous wetland plant species. Now the town has no problem with flooding. One local noted he has seen 20 new species of bird now using the wetlands. For a long time many Chinese were uninterested in nature, it was a great surprise to the city dwellers to hear the birdsong in the mornings. Real estate values have also doubled since the completion of the park.
