Participation
The fifty-fourth session of the Commission on the Status of Women was attended by representatives of Member States, United Nations entities and of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) from all regions of the world.
NGO participation
In addition to ECOSOC-accredited NGOs, the Economic and Social Council decided (Decision 2009/234) to invite those non-governmental organizations that were accredited to the Fourth World Conference on Women or to the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly to attend the fifty-fourth session of the Commission.

A total of 3,440 NGO representatives from 138 countries attended the fifty-fourth session of the Commission on the Status of Women. They represented 463 NGOs from which 425 were ECOSOC-accredited NGOs and 38 were those non-governmental organizations that were accredited to the Fourth World Conference on Women or to the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly.
