By the letter dated 12 July 2022 (A/77/191) addressed to the Secretary-General, the Permanent Representative of Plurinational State of Bolivia requested the inclusion of this item in the provisional agenda of the seventy-seventh session.

Consideration at the seventy-seventh session

The Sixth Committee considered the item at its 14th and 32nd meetings, on 13 October and 3 November 2022 (see A/C.6/77/SR.14 and 32). Statements were made by the representatives of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Peru and Brazil.

Support was expressed for granting observer status to the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization.

Action taken by the Sixth Committee

At the 14th meeting, on 13 October, the representative of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, also on behalf of Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru and Suriname, introduced a draft resolution entitled “Observer status for the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization in the General Assembly” (A/C.6/77/L.3) and announced that the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela had joined in sponsoring the draft resolution.

At the 32nd meeting, on 3 November, the Committee adopted draft resolution A/C.6/77/L.3 without a vote.

Under the draft resolution, the General Assembly would decide to invite the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization to participate in the sessions and the work of the General Assembly in the capacity of observer and request the Secretary-General to take the necessary action to implement the resolution.
