On 21 September 2009, on the eve of the UN Secretary-General’s Climate Summit, the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) convenes a one day High-Level Summit on Climate Change.
The AOSIS Climate Change Summit will represent an important opportunity to highlight the special vulnerability of SIDS in relation to climate change, only three months before the UNFCCC COP-15, which will take place in Copenhagen from 7 December to 18 December 2009. The main highlight of the Summit will be the adoption of the AOSIS Climate Change Declaration.
The Summit will be presided by the AOSIS Chair, Honorable Tillman Thomas, Prime Minister of Grenada, and will be joined to deliver opening remarks by the UN Secretary-General, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, the UNFCCC Executive Secretary, Mr. Yvo de Boer, as well as Dr. R. K. Pachauri, Chair of the IPCC.
