International Day of Forests 2017
The theme of the 2017 International Day of Forests celebration is “Forests and Energy” to increase awareness of forest-energy interconnections and strengthen engagement between forest and energy practitioners and policymakers. The theme is of particular relevance to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and SDG15 and SDG7 in particular.

Global celebration
Every year, the Forum secretariat holds a special event to celebrate the International Day of Forests at United Nations Headquarters in New York which attract participation from representatives of Member States, regional organizations, members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests and non-governmental organizations. The special event is also webcast live by United Nations Web TV.
