Organization of work and establishment of working groups

The Chair made a statement.

The Chair drew the attention of the Committee to the note by the Secretariat on the allocation of items to the Sixth Committee (A/C.6/78/1) and the organization of work (A/C.6/78/L.1 and Corr.1).

The Committee adopted its programme of work on the basis of document A/C.6/78/L.1 and Corr.1.

Pursuant to General Assembly resolution 76/119 of 9 December 2021, the Committee decided to establish a Working Group to examine the draft articles on protection of persons in the event of disasters and to consider further the recommendation of the International Law Commission for the elaboration of a convention by the Assembly or by an international conference of plenipotentiaries on the basis of the draft articles, or any other potential course of action with respect to the draft articles, also in the light of the views and comments expressed in the debates of the Sixth Committee, as well as the comments and observations received from Governments. The Working Group shall be open to all States Members of the United Nations and the relevant observers to the General Assembly. The Committee elected Mr. Antonio Lagdameo (Philippines) as the Chair of the Working Group.

Pursuant to General Assembly resolution 77/113 of 7 December 2022, the Committee established a Working Group on measures to eliminate international terrorism with a view to finalizing the process on the draft comprehensive convention on international terrorism as well as discussions on the item included in its agenda by Assembly resolution 54/110 concerning the question of convening a high-level conference under the auspices of the United Nations. The Working Group shall be open to all States Members of the United Nations or members of specialized agencies or of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The Committee elected Mr. Rohan Perera (Sri Lanka) as the Chair of the Working Group.
